Our Repair Services Include:
Can you do an evaluation about what we can do to improve coverage for our radios?
Yes, this is a common request. We can perform a site study to identify potential coverage issues as well as a overall performance evaluation.
Can I use our Wi-Fi network for radios?
Yes and no. Most radio systems will not benefit from Wi-Fi networks. Icom does build a product that uses your Wi-Fi for coverage. We can help you determine if this is a viable option.
Can I leave my radio on in the charger during the day? How about at night?
Generally this is not a good practice. The battery is designed to be charged and then depleted through use. If you leave it on in the charger you are actually charging and discharging the battery simultaneously. If you leave it on overnight, the charger will charge the battery and shut off. Your radio, still on, will be draining the battery so that in the morning, you may only have 50% of the life left.
How many years does a battery last?
Most batteries are warrantied for 1 year. We typically see a battery last for 3-4 years before replacement. It is dependent on the number of charge cycles as well as age.
How long does a portable radio battery last in a typical day?
This depends on the size of the battery but generally in analog mode, batteries will run for 10-14 hours between charges. In digital mode, this increases to 14-16 hours.
We have a high noise environment. Do you have equipment for that?
Yes, we offer several products that can help both transmitting and receiving audio in high noise environments.
Can I get rental radios to work with my existing equipment?
Yes, if you have radios now and need additional units for a short period, we can set them up to work with your radios and save you the cost of a purchase.
Do you rent radios?
Absolutely, we offer a large selection of rental equipment for just about every application.
Do I need an FCC license?
Yes is the short answer. In the grand scheme of things, the cost to license is relatively inexpensive and lasts for 10 years. It is of benefit to do so. Not only are you legally obligated to obtain a license, it helps to protect you from potential interference by coordinating your operations with those that surround you.
What is trunking? How does this help my business?
Basically, a trunked radio system enables radio channels to be pooled and shared by multiple user groups. For instance, you may have 4 different groups that need to access a system. Trunking gives those groups the ability to share channels but still be separate in operations; they won’t hear each other’s transmissions as they are separate groups. In both analog and digital, this process generally is managed by infrastructure.
Do I have to buy digital radios or can I still get analog radios? Will new radios work with my existing equipment?
You can still get analog radios. The price differential is not that significant and since digital radios can always operate in analog mode, you can buy digital and start migrating without replacing everything at once. New equipment can always be programmed to work with existing equipment.
Can I use radios like the old Nextels?
Yes and no. The Nextel system is no longer available however, many of the features that were attractive in the Nextel product are now available in digital radios. In addition new digital radios do not require airtime to operate.
What is DMR?
Digital mobile radio (DMR) is an open standard defined in the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and used in commercial products around the world. Nearly every manufacturer of two-way radios builds products to this standard. This standard defines how transmissions are sent and received in digital. The biggest benefits of this standard are improved audio communications, increased useable range, and the ability to have two transmissions on the same frequency at the same time.
Do you offer pickup and delivery?
Yes.
Do you offer overtime service?
Yes, we offer service 24 hours, 365 days a year. Our overtime calls are responded to by an on-call technician who can address your service issue regardless of the time. In addition to emergency overtime, we can schedule off hours work so as to not disrupt operations if needed.
Do you offer extended warranties?
Yes we are able to offer extended warranties for nearly all of our products. Also we offer service contracts for maintaining equipment after the warranty has expired.
I have equipment mounted in trucks and in offices. Can you come out and fix things here?
Yes, we offer mobile service. Our field technicians are able to address equipment repairs at your site and can often repair equipment in the field as opposed to pulling it and bringing back in.
Do you offer service outside the metro area?
Yes, we offer services throughout the state as well as neighboring states.
Do you have lease options?
Yes, we offer leases as well as other financing options.
Can I try equipment before I buy it?
Yes, we have several ways that you can test equipment to see how it will work in your environment. In most cases, there is no cost for this.
